Why Buy Individual Vision Insurance?

People buy vision insurance for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is to pay for costly Optometrist visits, and to help cover the costs of  eye glasses or contacts.  Whatever the case maybe having the right vision plan can you save hundreds of dollars a year and more  importantly help you take care of your eyes?  Vision insurance generally pays all or a percentage of the charges related to your vision  care (i.e. routine eye exams, preventative eye care).  A Vision Discount plan is similar to vision insurance, but instead of “co-pays” for  services rendered you receive a specific discount percentage for specific procedures.

Another reason to consider buying a vision discount or insurance plan is to maintain a healthy eye sight, and catch any potential diseases  (i.e. Glaucoma). Many insurance plans pay 100% for check-ups every six (6) months.  Most vision insurance plans will even cover a  check-up immediately after you are approved for coverage. Be sure to check the specific coverage or discount amounts on check-ups  before you sign up for a vision insurance plan.

Some types of insurance like auto insurance only provide a benefit to the few people when they have a costly accident.  Most times  insurance is one of those things you simply pay for and receive little benefit in return.  However, vision insurance is different from other  types of insurance, because its low cost makes it highly affordable for individuals and families. Second, because vision insurance  encourages and generally pays for regular check-ups, glasses and/or contacts each year.

The best part about buying vision insurance or a vision discount plan is you know you are going to use, and get your money’s worth!  And, like millions of Americans who already have vision coverage protection, you'll be glad you did!

Focusing on the Facts of Individual Vision Insurance:

1. More than 1 million Americans aged 40 and older are blind, and another 2.4 million are visually impaired.  This number could double in the next 30  years with the aging of Baby Boomers.

 2. More than 70 percent of Americans reported loss of eyesight as “10” on a scale of 1 – 10, with 10 being the worst thing that could happen to them.  It  means a loss of independence, mobility and quality of life.

3. More than 75 percent of U.S. residents between age 25 and 64 require some sort of vision correction.

4. Vision problems in adults cost an estimated $51.4 billion in the United States, including costs to the individuals and their caregivers, and the impact on       the U.S. economy.

5. One in four school-aged children has an undiagnosed vision problem that can interfere with learning.

6. A vision plan is one of the top five most-desired benefits, after medical insurance, by employees.

7. Vision health impacts overall health, too

8. Eye exams can detect symptoms of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Having a good vision plan in-place is essential for everyone, and the costs are so minimal there is really no excuse to not have a good vision insurance plan!
